Multiple Selection MCQ 15% in CMAT Type of Questions G Strategy

Multiple Selection 15% in CMAT Type of Questions

Overview: These questions are increasingly common in CMAT (around 15 questions). They present a list of statements (A, B, C, D, E) and ask you to select the correct combination, such as “A, B, and D only.” These are tricky because you often need partial knowledge of several different facts to get the full mark. However, they are statistically easier to hack than Pure MCQs because you rarely need to know the validity of every statement to find the right answer.

G Strategy for Multiple Selection MCQs:

  • The “Weak Link” Technique: Do not read the statements in order (A then B then C). Instead, scan the statements for the one you are 100% sure is FALSE. Once you find a definitely false statement (e.g., statement C), look at the options and cross out every option that contains C. Often, this eliminates 3 out of 4 choices, giving you the answer without reading the rest.
  • The “Anchor” Statement: Conversely, if you find a statement that is undeniably TRUE (e.g., statement A), eliminate any option that does not include A.
  • Option Dependency: Look at the options before reading the statements. If “Statement A” appears in all four options, don’t waste a second reading Statement A—it has to be true. Focus your energy on the statements that vary across the options.
