Match the Following 13% in CMAT Type of Questions
Match the Following questions usually appear in General Awareness and Innovation & Entrepreneurship. You are given two columns (List I and List II) and must pair items correctly. These can be time-consuming if you try to match every single pair. However, they are the most “hackable” questions in the entire paper because the options rigidly constrain the possible answers. You essentially get four clues to solve one problem.
G Strategy for Match the Following MCQs:
- The “Unique Pair” Attack: Never match Item A first. Item A is usually the most difficult or ambiguous to trap you. Scan List I for the item you are most confident about (say, Item C). Match Item C to its pair in List II.
- The “Vertical Scan”: Once you know that C matches with 2 (C-2), look at the four options immediately.
- Option 1: A-1, B-3, C-4…
- Option 2: A-2, B-1, C-2…
- Option 3: A-3, B-4, C-2…
- Option 4: A-4, B-2, C-1… In this case, since you know C is 2, the answer must be Option 2 or 3. You have eliminated 50% of the wrong answers by knowing just one fact.
- The “Odd One Out”: If you have no idea about any match, look at the options vertically. If for pair A, the options are (1, 1, 1, 2), it is highly probable that the answer starts with 1. This is a blind guessing strategy, but it works surprisingly often in test construction psychology.
