  1. QUESTION

A vessel of 160 L is filled with milk and water. 70% of milk and 30% of water is taken out of the vessel. It is found out that the vessel is vacated by 55%, then the quantity of milk and water in the original mixture is

A)Milk 100 L; Water = 60 L
B)Milk 60 L; Water = 100 L
C)Milk 90 L: Water = 70 L
D)Milk 70 L; Water = 90 L

Explanation

(A)

=Capacity of vessel = 160 l

Let=

MILK= X

WATER=160-X

X+70/100 + ( 160-x)30/160 =160=55/100

70x + 4000- 30x = 160 X 55

40x = 160×55 – 4800

8800-4800

40x = 4000

x = 100

QUESTION-2

    A container is filled with liquid, 6 part of which are water and 10 part milk. How much of the mixture must be drawn off and replaced with water, so that the mixture may be half water and half milk?

    A)1/3
    B)1/7
    C)1/5
    D)1/8

    Explanation

    (C)

    = 3 parts water and 5 parts milk.

    So water = 3/8 and milk = 5/8 To make them equal,

    4/8 of water and milk should be there

    Let x be the amount of liquid we replace by water, Water = 3x/8 and milk = 5x/8

    Now,

    Water before replacement + 5x/8 = milk before replacement – 5x/8

    milk – water(before replacement) = 10x/8 = 5x/4

    5/8 part-3/8 part = 5x/4

    1/4 part = 5x/4

    x = 1/5

    1/5 of the mixture must be drawn off and replaced with water so that the mixture may be half water and half milk.
